The Lake House in Austin, TX by Anderson Wise Architects is located on a sloped bank of Lake Austin. There is a mile-long path that carries the traveler to this exclusive hideaway. Along the path, a suspension bridge expanses over the caverns below on the journey to this relaxing space. The space is constructed out of a frame of steel, and has wood accents within the structure. When a relaxing breeze travels through the structure, the screens on the windows allow the wind to pass through the structure. The placement of the structure allows for an excluded, relaxing getaway from the rest of the world. The calming breeze and the rustling water create a Zen atmosphere in which the occupant can completely relax and rejuvenate. During the recreation of this magnificent space, I considered each and every detail from the original design and photographs of the actual space to make it as true as it can be. I used the detail of how the original structure is built from steel and the wood was just an accent to the marvelous masterpiece which is this structure. I made sure to keep the lake house look as if it is just resting upon the water to create the serene scene. In addition to the placement of the building, I tried my best to recreate the environment the lake house is in with the lake passing through and the hills carrying you along the path. Inside of the space I did my best to recreate the armchair in the original design. Also, I followed most of the chair placement from the original design. One small detail I put in was the lantern in the window of the space to create that “one with nature” feeling that was already created in the original design. Another item I designed myself in this plan were the boat ties which are displayed in the left-top-most image. Displayed on the bottom are the 1st floor plan, 2nd floor plan, and elevations (left to right) of the original space. The middle-most image displays an interior view looking out onto the lake as if you were sitting in those chairs. The top-most photographs show an exterior view of the 1st floor of the lake house with a complete shower and boat dock, an exterior view of the lake house at night, an interior view of the complete space, and an interior view of the original design of the seating plan w/ lantern shelf (left to right).
